4. RULE #2
Capitalize the first word of a direct quotation that is a complete sentence.
A direct quotation gives the speaker’s exact words.

Mr. Olivis yelled, “go to your class!”
Mr. Olivis yelled, “Go to your class!”

6. RULE # 3
When a quote is interrupted by words such as “she said,” DO NOT begin the second part of the sentence with a capital letter.
HINT: If there is a comma(,) before the second part of the quote-then do NOT begin the second part with a capital letter.
HINT: If there is a period(.) before the second part of the quote-then DO begin the second part with a capital letter.

An indirect quotation is often introduced by the word that.

10. RULE #5
Capitalize the first word in the salutation (greeting) of a letter.
Capitalize the first word in the closing of a letter.
Capitalize the title and names of the person addressed.
