1 A Servant’s Heart

2 “Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.” Isaiah 42:1

3 “... If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
Mark 9:35b

4 “. but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant
Mark 10:43

5 “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself...

6 “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men…

7 “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.  Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:1-11

8 We Must Guard our Motives

9 We Must Guard our Motives
The heart is the causal core of your personhood... the seat of your thoughts, emotions, desires, and motivations. It is the worship center of your self. The heart is the reason you do the things you do and say the things you say. You and I literally live out of our hearts!

10 We Must Guard our Motives
“Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23

11 We Must Guard our Motives
1. We serve because we are grateful

12 We Must Guard our Motives
We serve because we are grateful “ For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.” 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

13 We Must Guard our Motives
We serve because we are grateful We serve because of love

14 We Must Guard our Motives
We serve because we are grateful We serve because of love “For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15

15 We Must Guard our Motives
We serve because we are grateful We serve because of love We serve for God’s glory

16 We Must Guard our Motives
3. We serve for God’s glory “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

17 We Must Serve from a Place of Intimacy with Jesus

18 We Must Serve from a Place of Intimacy with Jesus
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:4-5

19 We Must Serve from a Place of Intimacy with Jesus
“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” Mark 1:35

20 We Must Do What the Father is Doing

21 We Must Do What the Father is Doing
“Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.” John 5:19
