Mass media refers to communication devices, which can be used to communicate and interact with a large number of audiences in different languages. MASS MEDIA CAN BE CLASSIFIED INTO : Print media OR Outdoor media Electronic Media New Age Media

Print media encompasses mass communication through printed material. It includes newspapers, magazines, booklets and brochures, house magazines, periodicals or newsletters, direct mailers, handbills or flyers, billboards, press release and books.. Newspapers Newspapers enjoyed the position of the most preferred medium to reach a wider audience until electronic communication emerged on the media scene..

6 INTRODUCTION A newspaper is a serial publication containing  news other informative articles and advertising. A newspaper is usually but not exclusively printed on relatively inexpensive, low-grade paper such as newsprint. The news organizations that publish newspapers are themselves often metonymically called newspapers. Most newspapers are now published online as well as in print. The online versions are called online newspapers or news sites . Newspapers are typically published daily or weekly. 

7 Meaning and Definition
A newspaper can be defined as a paper that is printed and distributed usually daily or weekly and that contains news, articles of opinion, features, and advertising Meaning Most Printed media usually distributed weekly or daily in the form of a folded book of papers. The publication is typically sectioned off based on subject and content. The most important or interesting news will be displayed on the front page of the publication. Newspapers may also include advertisements, opinions, entertainment and other general interest news etc..

Hickey's Bengal Gazette was an English newspaper published from Kolkata (then Calcutta), India. It was the first major newspaper in India, started in 1780.

Rajyasamacharam was the first newspaper in Malayalam. This was started for religious propagation by Hermann Gundert under the Christian missionaries of Basel Mission in June 1847 from Illikkunnu in Thalassery.

12 Advantages of newspaper
Newspaper is read by huge number of population, so news or information can be made available easily. Newspaper is not very expensive so anyone can buy newspaper. If anyone wants to publish advertisement or any useful information then he can publish easily in any size format or any page of newspaper. Reader can read news any time whenever he wish and able to read information again and again. Newspaper is available in various languages so you can choose the newspaper of your choice.

13 Disadvantages of newspaper
In some of the newspaper the advertisement space may be expensive. As the Internet, Television or Radio are used widely by many people , so advertisers prefer newspaper less for advertisement compared to Internet and other medias. Newspaper can be easily discarded once read, so less chances for advertiser to convert the advertisement into leads or sale. Competitors can easily see the price of your product and hence they quickly react to your prices. Sometimes in some newspaper the news which are shown are false.The news are even twisted and distorted. Sometimes poor printed image quality is seen in the newspaper.

14 How Do Students Benefit From Newspapers in the Classroom?
Students who use the newspaper in school read more sections of the newspaper and show significantly greater interest in local government, neighborhood events, current issues and foreign affairs. Children who frequently read newspapers are more likely than nonreaders to be reading other things in daily life. Students who use the newspaper in school have less trouble reading it, have more positive attitudes toward it and are more likely to read it on their own. People who read newspapers regularly are more likely to be active voters.

15 Importance of reading newspaper
By reading newspapers, we keep abreast of the current events all over the world. By reading newspapers, busy people can form judgment on public affairs. Again, newspapers publish advertisements, producers, manufacturers and businessmen know what things are in demand and what things they will push up for sale. In Sunday issues, generally articles on sports and games, latest fashions and humorous sketches are published Again, the grievances of the people are voiced through the columns of the newspapers.
