6. Problems in organisations arise from people, so recruit them properly, then develop them. RECRUIT THEM PROPERLY!

Set expectations of performance - good teaching is the norm, fairness and consistency

13. Conclusions Recruitment is key – don’t rush it, it’s a big investment!
The leadership challenges have changed over the years – as has HE
Have access to people who can help as mentors, coaches, role models
University promotion criteria have to be clear
Talent development and retention are too important to be left to chance
Succession planning – does anyone do this well?
