1 Endangered species of animals in Poland

2 The snake Aesculapius Aesculapius snake is not venomous. It is the largest snake found in Poland - can reach up to 2 metres of lenght. Unfortunately, soon it may change. From year to year there are less and less of them. It occurs in the Bieszczady mountains.

3 Green lizard The biggest lizard in Central Europe limbs living. It occurs in the Bieszczady Mountains and upland Lublin.

4 Fire-bellied toad A small amphibian with a fine physique, at first glance resembles a toad. The body is strongly flattened, small eyes and a small head. When it is frightened it rolls over on its back, showing the bright coloration of the underside of the body. This behavior discourages predators to attack. It occurs throughout the lowlands.

5 Pond turtle The only native turtle species living in Poland, and lives in the environment even more than 120 years. Poland has about 335 refuges of reptiles. It occurs only in National Parks and Landscape.

6 Porpoise Not everyone knows that this relative of the dolphins mammal also occurs in the Baltic Sea. In the Polish part of the Baltic even in 1994 there were about 600 individuals. The exact number today is not known. It occurs in the Baltic Sea.

7 Noble salmon In the mid-'80s salmon disappeared completely from the Polish rivers as a result of the destruction of spawning grounds. 14 Żołędnica Currently Żołędnica can be found in Babiogórski National Park. They live in small burrows and rock crevices. It occurs in Babiogórski National Park.

15 Marmot One of the biggest rodents. Currently in the northern hemisphere live 14 species of marmots. They occur in Germany, France, Slovenia, Switzerland and Poland.

16 Tatra chamois Living on top of the mountains goats are at risk, due to a lot of factors. Currently, they often die as a result of diseases, mainly parasitic invasions. It occurs in the Tatra Mountains.

17 Bison Bison in Poland is under protection. They have massive, large extensive chest and narrow waist, and their horns are large and rounded to the inside. They are in mixed forests.

18 Brown bear It is avery characteristic animal because of its thick, brown hair, claws and massive body. It is a powerful animal - adults weigh up to 800 kg. In captive brown bears can live up to 40 years old, but the wild life of this species generally do not exceed 25 years. It occurs in the Carpathians.

19 The buck’s-horn plantain It is a very rare plant, strictly under protection, it was last seen between Kołobrzeg and Budzistow.

20  The dwarf marsh violet A plant that is really hard to be found in Poland as it is endangered to be extinct.

22 The purple-flowered garlic The species grows in disturbed habitats such as roadsides, cultivated fields. It produces large clumps of as many as 50 egg-shaped bulbs, each up to 1.5 cm long. Leaves are up to 40 cm long.
