A. Gospels are written accounts of Jesus’ life inspired by the Holy Spirit. B. Four Gospels written years after Jesus’ death and resurrection. 1. Mark = 1st 2. John = 4th

they are faith portraits. Each Gospel written for a particular Christian Community. ex. Matthew wrote for Jewish converts to Christianity E. All are important to understand the truth.

II. Titles of Jesus in the Bible
A. Jesus means “God Saves” in Hebrew. B. Reflects his identity and mission as savior of the world C. Christ is Greek translation of Hebrew word “messiah” = anointed

Titles Cont’d. D. Hebrew belief that the messiah would fulfill all God’s promises for salvation E. Jesus Christ=the anointed one sent by God to be the savior of the world

Titles Cont’d. Son of God signifies a special and unique relationship to God. G. Lord is a Greek word for Yahweh which was thought to be too sacred to say.

The Incarnation: True God and True Man
A. Jesus is both human and God—this mystery is the Incarnation. B. In Jesus the human and the divine are fully united. Therefore Jesus is the perfect mediator between God and humanity.
