2. Berkeley Initiative for Transparency in the Social Sciences
Established by the Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) in 2012, BITSS works to strengthen the integrity of social science research and evidence used for policy-making, by enhancing the practices of economists, psychologists, political scientists, and other social scientists.
We are excited to announce the institutionalizing of the Summer Institutes, now called the Research Transparency and Reproducibility Trainings (RT2), with an award from NIH for the next five years.
These RT2 trainings will focus on delivering transparency coursework for students, faculty, and researchers – around the world, with a new location every year.

3 Summer Institutes and 17 workshops over three years, reaching 600+ students, faculty researchers, and policymakers. We also have 33 Catalysts in 12 countries that we are supporting conducting open science trainings and developing curriculum
Established a strong and growing network of African scholars trained and delivering training on research transparency and reproducibility. We are excited about working with partners: Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), African Population Health Research Center (APHRC), African School of Economics, JPAL SA, and the East Africa Social Science Translation (EASST)
SSMART - BITSS is a leader in funding research – we are currently funding 20 competitively selected research projects for a total of $550,000
BITSS also awards the only financial prize that incentivizes and recognizes pioneers in open science –the Leamer-Rosenthal Prizes for Open Social Science. This year we will award another 9 prizes. You will hear from these recipients later today.
