Egg Cart Race

2. Objective
Build a cart that will transport an egg to a set distance safely on tile and on carpet.

3. Cart Restrictions
The cart can only contain mechanical parts. No chemical or electrical devices may be used on the cart or to propel the cart.
The dimension of the cart must be within 10”x 6”x 6”.
No external device or attachment may be used to stop the cart.
No pre-made car kit of any kind can be used for the cart. (no k’nex, leggo, etc.)
*20% of the car may have pre-made materials.

4. Requirements A schematic diagram of the cart A log of the project
A fully operational cart
A report of the production and evaluation of the cart.

5. Grading *30 points will come from the evaluations of the cart.
15 points from the tile evaluation
15 points from the carpet evaluation
*70 points of the grade will come from the report.

6. General information
*Since the project is a race, it pays to come in first or second place. A bonus of 5 points will be given for 2nd place and 10 points for 1st place. The bonuses are reward for each surface.
*Each group may have up to four members.
*Each group will have two runs per given surface.
*The cart must stay within a given track and must complete the run to obtain any points.
*The track’s width is 1 meter wide and has a length ranging from 9 to 10 meters. The exact distance will be given a day before evaluation.

7. Assignment
Think about the project and come up with a preliminary design for the cart.
Power source: ramp, rubberband, etc.
Why?
Material list: wood, metal, screws, nails, etc
Method of stopping.
Friction: from braking system, momentum, etc.
