The allusion is making a comparison to help us better understand something. An allusion can refer to anything, including mythology, history, other pieces of writing, movies, or pop culture. When dad lost his job, mom turned into a Scrooge. He was so angry I expected him to turn green and tear his shirt to bits by flexing his bulging muscles. Allusion

Read the following examples of allusion. Identify the allusion and state where it comes from. Use the internet if needed. Do this with a partner. Warren Buffet said, “I violated the Noah rule: predicting rain doesn’t count; building arks does. She was on a diet, but french fries were her Achilles heel. I’m just a regular guy. I wasn’t born on Krypton, and I can’t leap tall buildings in a single bound. It was such an obvious lie, I was surprised his nose didn’t start growing. No matter how hard my mom tries, she is no Carol Brady. He draws well, but he is no Leonardo da Vinci. Allusion Activity
