Day 3 Sports Marketing Strand 1- Students will gain an understanding of basic marketing concepts and terminology as they pertain to the sports and entertainment industry. Standard 1: Identify and understand the basic concepts and the core standards of marketing. Define marketing market, producer, consumer, exchange, the "marketing concept", marketing mix, and give examples of each. Explain the core standards of marketing: Channel Management Marketing Planning Pricing Product Service Management Promotion Selling

Group Activity Get into 9 groups. Each assigned group discuss with class their assigned word or topic. Group 1- Define Marketing. Give Example Group 2- Define Market. Give Example Group 3- Define Producer. Give Example Group 4- Define Consumer- Give Example Group 5- Define Exchange. Give Example Group 6- Define Marketing Concept. One that utilizes economic goods Has America changed in what we consume?

Exchange Has America changed the way we exchange?
The act of giving or taking one thing in return for another. Has America changed the way we exchange?

Marketing Concept The philosophy that good marketing strategy always has the needs and wants of the target market in mind. The root of marketing is that the product or service we are selling has to meet the need of the consumer, and that they are willing to purchase it at a price that allows us to make money.

Marketing Information Management
You need to gather information about your customers through market research in order to know what your customers want. How do companies gather information about us and what we want? How has this changed?

What strategy will work with what audience?
Market Planning Understanding the concepts and strategies used to develop and target specific marketing strategies to a select audience. What strategy will work with what audience?

Pricing How do you know if you are charging too much?
Decision on what to price your product in order to make a profit. You must also consider what customers will be willing to pay. How do you know if you are charging too much? How do you know if you are not charging enough?

Product/Service Management
Obtaining, developing, maintaining, and improving a product or product mix in response to market opportunities. Did Mars Candy start off with 25 kinds of M&M's?

Promotion The effort to inform, persuade, or remind current and potential customers about a business's products or services. How will people know they love it if they don't know where it is?

Selling Provides customers with the goods and services they want. We have to have people of business sell the products we want, or we would not have a place to purchase the items. How has the selling place changed over the years?
