CULTURE Different is different
14
Reading: “Comparing Cultures”
Cultural behaviors are a little different in the United States compared to Haiti. People are more reserved in the United States, while Haitians are warmer. Don’t be offended. On first greetings, everyone usually shakes hands. Even friends and colleagues shake hands most of the time. Very close friends will often hug. Sometimes men will kiss a woman on the cheek, and sometimes women will kiss other women on the cheek, but that is usually reserved for very close friends and family. It is the same when saying goodbye. Also, people in the United States do not stand as close to each other, as in Haiti. Again, don’t be offended.
