3 Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter who lived between 1881 and 1973.
During his lifetime he painted many different portraits.

4 For much of his life he lived in France creating drawings, paintings and printings.
He was also a poet, playwright and stage designer.

5 Picasso created many portraits throughout his life.

6 Picasso developed a style called Cubism.
This is where figures were painted using geometrical shapes such as squares, cubes, cylinders and cones. The paintings looked like they had been cut up and then glued back together. Another feature of his work is that he showed different views of the figure at the same time.

8 In Picasso’s portraits he combined the frontal face with a side view – he wanted to capture all their features from all angles,
