Changing Final y to i If the base word ends with the letter y, to make it plural you may have to change the y to i and then add -es. If the base word ends with the letter y, to make it past tense you may have to change the y to i and then add -ed. For example: bunnies dried- bunny, dry, change y to i, add -es change the y to i, add -ed
