1 Tee Time Problem Solving with Money

2 Problem: Vinny was going golfing and realized he needed a new golf ball and tee. He went to the pro shop and asked how much it would be to buy two items. The clerk told him $1 even for both. Vinny asked how much for just the ball alone? The clerk replied that it is 50 cents more than the tee. How much is the golf ball?

3 Solution: The cost for the ball and the tee is $1, and the cost of the ball equals $0.50 more than the tee. We can use the equation x + (x +.5) = 1. Solving this, we see that the tee is $0.25, which means each ball is $0.75.
