I’m so proud of our class, they are building a wonderful classroom community. They are so kind and considerate of others and are great friends! You might hear your child talk about the monthly student awards. This is a building-wide program, which showcases students who follow the MBI (Montana Behavior Initiative) theme of the month. The October theme was responsibility and safety, our class winners were Charlotte and Raeley! Way to go! November's theme is honesty. What’s Happening in Second Grade Students had a great time learning about bats. They were so intrigued at all of the new discoveries they made. Make sure to ask them all about bats!! We read Charlotte’s Web during Reading Buddies and we fell in love with the characters. It was so wonderful to see how excited the students were to listen to the story each day. For our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) project this month we designed spider webs. Student groups were given a certain amount of materials which they used to build a spider web. Their webs were tested to see how many mini spiders they could hold. They did an AMAZING job working together as a team for an entire hour! I was so proud of them! Second graders have been very busy writing numbers in multiple ways and working on their basic addition and subtraction facts to 20. Please practice these facts at home! We had a wonderful time on the fall field trip and it turned out to be a great day! I hope your child had many fun things to share with you about our exciting day. I was so impressed with all of the new foods they tried on the farm! Halloween was also a very fun day in 2nd grade with the pumpkin carving, party, and parade! November will be a very busy month. Students will start practicing their Christmas program (The Polar Express), we will start a unit on Native Americans and Reservations in Montana, and do many exciting crafts and projects. Parent Teacher Conferences are this month and I look forward to visiting with you. Thank you for all you do at home!! Don’t forget to remind your student to write a descriptive sentence in their agenda nightly! Also, please make sure your student is coming to school with appropriate gear. It’s getting to be very chilly outside, especially in the early mornings.
