1 Media film evaluation

2 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? This extreme close up allows us to see around the dealers kitchen we can also see a pot which could be used to crush up and make drugs along with books, he has also just picked up some Tabaco showing he smokes. This shot allows us to get to know this character a lot more. This shot is similar to one used in both Kingsman and Skyfall as they both have close ups on important items that help us to get to know our characters and what they are like.

3 I used a long shot so that we could get to know this character more
I used a long shot so that we could get to know this character more. This shot is dark purposely showing the evil in this character also he is in a black hoodie and he pulls up the hood in a later shot showing he is up to no good. This shot is also similar to the one used in James bond (Skyfall; see codes and conventions) when James is walking down the hall way towards the camera. The miss-en-scene of this shot shows a teenager in a hoody which is the stereotypical way “drug dealers” dress to hid there face, it also shows danger. I also wanted to use low level lighting in this shot to show this characters dark side.

4 In this shot I used a close up so that we could see the concentration in my lead character. This also us to see that he is on a mission. Also I had a close up on the gun which also helps to show that he is an agent and our hero in this scene. This shot also shows he is looking for someone as he has just jumped round the corner. This shot is similar to two shots that I used in my codes and conventions that introduced you to a character of importance in the film. (This type of shot is seen a lot in action/spy films when the actor jumps around the corner holding his gun up to the camera) the miss-en-scene of this character is that he is smart and well paid. This could show this his job is dangerous. Also the use of a prop the gun helps us understand his job.

5 In this shot I used a two shot as it allows the audience to see the relationship between the characters. In this shot we can see the two characters fighting that clearly shows they don’t get on. We also see that the agent is dressed up smart showing us that he is the one with the power out of the two as he is leaning over the other. Whereas the other is facedown on the floor and just in a hoody. With the hole fight section of my film opening I got the idea from Skyfall as they used a number of different shots from different angles which is seen a lot in traditional Action/Spy films. I edited to show fast pace and also that the agent and the teenager are used to fighting.

6 I edited this shot in black and white to show some confusion to the audience as this man has just been shot and that’s how this character would be feeling as he would be hallucinating before he dies. I also used props to get some blood coming out his mouth in the bottom right hand corner as it helped to show his injury. This shot isn't used much in Action/Spy films but I thought it had an effect that would be easy for the audience to relate too. At this point the editing slows down and we start to have longer shots being used.

7 This shot is an extreme close up of the agents shoe and it allows the audience to see around the hole room and also the body of the dead dealer. It lets the audience just think about what just happened and have a recap as well as being told the name of the film “LEROY” also his shoes are smart and they are something that a well paid man would ware so we know this is his job. Out of the two films I used for codes and conventions both of them had a title like this ware the righting is in blocked capitals so I decided to stick to that tradition.

8 How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My media product represents the main social group of Teenagers. I represented my teenager as being a trouble maker, I showed this by putting him in a black hoodie and showing him smoking and preparing drugs. He is also shown as violent as he makes the first move to attack the man inside his house. The reason I wanted to show this was because the teenager has been so troubling someone has out as hit on him. My second representation is of men. I am showing a traditional masculine man, I show this as he has a tradition masculine job by being a spy/agent who hunts down criminals. My character could also be seen as a snob as he is overdressed for the type of job he is doing. I also used miss-en-scene to show him being dressed in smart professional clothing showing that he is good at his job and is paid well.

9 What would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my media product would be 12A. The reason I'm choosing this age rating is because I'm not using any bad language and it’s the same as Skyfall. The reason I'm not using Kingsman’s aerating is because it’s a 15 and they have jokes that are for older audiences and a lot of people are killed so instead I will be just a 12A aerated film. I would also say that the majority of my audience would be men as traditionally Action/spy films are see as a mans film but the majority of my questionnaire respondents were female and said they would watch an Action film. To keep the age rating down In the blood scene I put a washed out filter on the shot so it was less disturbing for younger audiences, meaning the age rating would stay down and they would still be able to watch it.

10 What kind of media institution might release your product and why?
The media institution I would use would be Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as they have released many action films like 21 jump street most of the James Bond films. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer would be a good choice as they have had loads of experience in distributing action films in the past and especially my type of genre which is Action/Spy and I think my product will fit in well with there pattern of releasing. Also all these films have been very successful and I would like my media product to have that much success; a large company like MGM will also have a large amount of advertising so I would be able to reach my target audience.

11 What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing your product?
The main new technology that I have had to learn to use has been serif movie plus as it’s the only software I had access to whilst editing my film. Although it was easy to get the hang of using I had some issues with saving and I did have to download all my media of my memory stick again as my files did become corrupted. But luckily and had all my frottage saved in 3 locations just incase if anything like this did happen. I also learnt how to layer sound over film to help show the mood of the film. I used editing to help keep the pace of the film moving and cut out unnecessary footage to help create a coherent narrative.

12 How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience by using popular codes and conventions that are used in many Action films. For example the Agent jumping around the corner of the door and holding his gun up to the camera. I also attracted the audiences attention by using an action scene. By using an action scene the audience would be interested in all the fast pace action and waiting to see how it ends and who will win. I only used 2 characters so it would make the hole opening easier to follow instead of having to follow loads of characters at once and remember what each one is doing.

13 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression to the full product? From my preliminary task to the final product I have learnt how to edit footage in a way so that each shot flows from one to the next without looking out of place. I was also to place music and text over frottage as well as using audio from my footage to put over my final film footage. Continuity editing- I have learnt how to make sure that all my short shots make sense when I edited them into the small time limit of 2 minuets. I also gained experience with media terminology's and technology's which help with all parts in my final product.
