Course Content: Design Thinking
Getting students comfortable and confident with the design process. Empathy, Ideate (Brainstorm), Prototype Understanding the client or “user” Collaboration How to give and process feedback. Refine and improve ideas. Cycle can repeat many times.

Course Content: Drawing
Basic drawing skills: tapping into right hemisphere on the brain Using drawing as a way to communicate ideas Orthographic drawing (free-hand and in Solid Works program) Executing and understanding that drawing is a crucial step in the creative process Truly seeing the world differently in order to draw

Elements of Art & Principles of Design: basic building blocks of any artistic creation How art and design relate to careers Team and individual projects Critiques; expressing opinions effectively Drawing inspiration from famous art of the past and the present

Large projects are graded on the following 5 criteria: Objectives Mastery of Skill Craftsmanship Creativity Work Ethic

Portfolio Each quarter students will write a self-reflection (portfolio review) to assess growth in these areas: Achieving personal goals set at beginning of the quarter Progress on assessment criteria Progress on drawing skills Professionalism Their portfolios will be a well-organized, 3-ring binder.
