SECTION 1.4 NIV

MAIN IDEA God is our perfect example of love because He is love. His love is perfect and amazing, because He sent His Son to die for us and take our punishment, even though we are sinners and enemies of God. NIV

MEMORY VERSES EPHESIANS 2:4-5 But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved. NIV

Why do you love the people you love?
INTRODUCTION Why do you love the people you love? How do you show your love to those people? Where does love come from? How did God show His love for us? NIV

MAIN LESSON 1. Loving another person means doing what’s best for them, even if it means that we don’t get the best for ourselves. NIV

MAIN LESSON Ephesians 2:4-5 But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved. NIV

MAIN LESSON 2. God created us for a love relation-ship with Him, but our sin keeps us from that relationship. Because God is just, someone must take the punish-ment for our sin, which is death. NIV

MAIN LESSON Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. NIV

MAIN LESSON 3. But because God loved us, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take our punishment. NIV

MAIN LESSON 1 John 4:9-10 This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. NIV

MAIN LESSON 4. God’s love is much stronger and more amazing than our love. He loved us and did what was best for us, even though we were sinners and didn’t deserve His love at all! NIV

MAIN LESSON Ephesians 2:4-5 But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved. NIV

What does it mean that God is love?
FAITH IN ACTION What does it mean that God is love? We deserve death because of our sin, but what did God do for us instead? How will that affect the way you think and act in your day-to-day life? NIV
