5
Trends in Azerbaijan Power Sector
Azerbaijan keen to increase share of hydro-electric power to 10 % and more Focus on building small hydro-power plants, particularly in water-rich Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan Azerbaijan is surplus in electric energy production and exports power to neighbours- To Turkey through “Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey Energy Bridge” To Iran and neighbouring parts of Russia - Regional Grid being developed ADB support for power sector reforms and projects- ADB multi- tranche loan of $750 million to upgrade power distribution networks of Azerishiq Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC).

Possibilities of Bilateral cooperation in Hydro Power
Avenues of cooperation discussed with Azərenerji Cooperation discussed at Inter-Governmental level during Joint Commission Meeting in Oct 2016 NHPC offered : consultancy for development of new hydro power stations consultancy for Renovation and Modernization Uprating (RMU) of old hydro power plants Consultancy for preparation of DPR, technical consultancy services in design and engineering during execution, technology transfer Capacity building -training of engineers in hydro power sector NHPC should plan a visit of delegation to Azerbaijan for first hand look at the possible opportunities
