1 Canadian Holidays By Seshan Anandarajah

2 Canada Day It’s celebrated On July 1st.
It’s to celebrate Canada’s birthday. It’s celebrated all over Canada with fireworks, music concerts and parties. There is a big celebration in front of Canadian Parliament in Ottawa

3 Christmas It’s celebrated on December 25th.
Christmas is a celebration of Jesus birth. On Christmas day families get together, have a feast, parties and exchange gifts.

4 Valentines Day It is celebrated on February 14th.
It is a celebration of love. On Valentines day kids go to school and give each other Valentines day card and sometimes give treats. Adults exchange flowers, gifts and cards with their loved ones.

5 Easter Easter is celebrated in March or April. This year it was on April 8th. It is the day Jesus came back to life. Kids go on scavenger hunt in their house. They get baskets and look for chocolate eggs.

6 Thanksgiving It’s celebrated on October 10th.
It is celebrated to thank for all that you have. You get together with family and have a big feast.

7 New Years It is celebrated on January 1st.
It is to celebrate the start of a new year. It is celebrated by people having parties and watching fireworks.

8 Remembrance Day It is celebrated on November 11th
It is celebrated to remember all the soldiers who fought in the war for us. To celebrate it we think about all the soldiers at 11:00 am by 2 minutes of silence.

9 Victoria Day It is celebrated on May 23rd.
It is celebrated to remember all the British ruling kings and queens. It is celebrated with fireworks.

10 Halloween It is celebrated on October 31st.
It is believed that the spirits cross our world on this day. Kids wear fancy costume and go to neighbourhood houses and say “trick or treat” to receive candy.

11 Civic Holiday It is celebrated on August 1st.
It is celebrated to mark the end of slavery by the British empire. It is celebrated with fireworks.
