What is the Writing Stars competition?
Write a poem to inspire your friends
Win fantastic Premier League prizes
Think about RESILIENCE – trying and trying again!
All the information you need about the competition can be found at xxx
Explain that after looking at different types of poetry, including a poem called Try, Try Again, they will write their very own poem about resilience in the style of their choice.
They could win a visit to London for a special award ceremony, a visit to your school by a well-known author, have their poem read aloud by a Premier League star AND have their poem featured in a book.

Ask pupils what these words mean to them.
Everyone needs resilience if they want to succeed!
Can pupils think of times they have had to show RESILIENCE?
You may need to explain this further for KS1 pupils.

Footballers in the Premier League need RESILIENCE to keep going and succeed when they are challenged.
But we all need this life skill!
Explain to pupils why resilience is such an important to skill to learn for both school and wider life.

A new poem could be an acrostic, rhyming or a sound poem.

Entries need to be put into the School Council Box by:
8th December 2017
There are two categories – one for pupils in Key Stage 1 and one for those in Key Stage 2.
Individual or group entries are allowed for Key Stage 1, only individual entries for Key Stage 2.
Poems should be no more than 20 lines or 150 words and be on the theme of resilience.
Pupils can continue the Try, Try Again poem or start a new poem. Poems can be of any structure and don't have to rhyme.
