Learning to Earn and Demonstrate Exemplary Respect… LEADER
2
What is LEADER? Developed through a collaboration between WCPSS and RPD, the LEADER program is designed to help students: Understand the positive role of law enforcement Learn the impact of personal decisions and actions on themselves and others The program consists of 2 components: Classroom instruction – Six 45 minute lessons for all 5th graders. Mentoring – Officers will be available to every school for 12 half-days throughout the school year (18 for year-round)
3
History of LEADER… In the Fall of 2014, district leadership met with RPD leadership in an effort to continue a partnership which started with the DARE program. Recognizing data that demonstrated that DARE may not be current for use with today’s students, members of academics and RPD reached out to neighboring districts to examine alternative programs to DARE. The LEADER program combines elements of the old program, other programs, and new, district-created ideas.
