2 Welcome to AP Lang! Wednesday: 10/18/17
Objective I can analyze and interpret samples of purposeful writing, identifying and explaining an author’s use of rhetorical strategies, specifically “Ethos”. (CB 1) (R2/6) Instruction: Put your phone in your backpack. You will have one point that you may use tech today. Wait for direction. Warm Up: Take a minute to discuss your high and Low of your break Independent: Read chapter 3 and turn into Cornell notes, turn in separately the Respond questions Homework: Read and follow directions for the Article of the Week: “You Have Almost Certainly Been Hacked” (The week 2017) Read one: Literal Read: Read through the article first as a literal read. Provide a one sentence summary over EACH section of the article. Read two: Structural Read: Read through a second time, specifically noting the articles structure (Syntax, Diction, Tone) Annotate for DELIBERATE WORD CHOICE. Finally, answer the analysis and response questions at the bottom of the article. Each question should be detailed in full paragraph form with EVIDENCE and EXAMPLES as well as ANALYSIS as to WHY OR HOW the evidence and examples support your answer.

(CB 1) (R2/6) Instruction: Take out your cell phone and place face down on the corner of your desk. You WILL be able to use it later for today’s class.  Warm Up: Vocabulary Workshop chapter 1-3 review quizlet on your phone for 3 minutes. Class Work: Read Chapter 4: Logos of Everything’s an Arugument and create Cornell Notes in your notebook. Begin Respond activities handout, turn in at the end of class or finish for HW. Homework: Review Vocabulary 1-3 for test tomorrow Finish class work if not done. Work on Gatsby Reading guide due block day.

Warm Up: Take SAT/ACT Vocabulary Review Test Independent: Read chapter 5 and turn into Cornell notes Homework: Read and follow directions for the Articles “Should Companies Comment on Politics?” and “NFL audience…” Use technology to find a company or public figure who have taken a political stance. What were the results? Write a (about a page) essay a. provide background information b. reasons for the public’s reaction c. and the role Ethos played in the causing and /or resolving the situation.
