1.4 Polygons

Polygon Definition: A polygon is a closed figure in a plane, formed by connecting line segments endpoint to endpoint. Each segment intersects exactly two others. Side vertex

Polygons! Sides Name 3 Triangle 4 Quadrilateral 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 n
Pentagon Hexagon Heptagon Octagon Nonagon Decagon Undecagon Dodecagon n-gon

Diagonal Definition: A diagonal of a polygon is a line segment that connects two non-consecutive vertices.

Convex vs. Concave A polygon is convex if no diagonal is outside the polygon. A polygon is concave if at least one diagonal is outside the polygon. Convex polygons Concave polygons

Congruent Polygons If polygons are congruent, then the corresponding sides and angles are congruent. If the corresponding sides and angles are congruent, then the polygons are congruent.

Your task… Create quality definitions for the three terms on page 56. Add them to your yellow definition pages. When finished you may begin on today’s assignment: 1.4 #1-10, 12-18, 20-23

Equilateral Polygons Equiangular Polygons Regular Polygons
Polygons in which all sides have equal length. Equiangular Polygons Polygons in which all angles have equal measure. Regular Polygons Polygons that are both equilateral and equiangular.
