How are vicious volcanoes formed?
Volcanoes are formed when magma from within the earth’s upper mantle works its way to the surface. At the surface, it erupts to form lava flows and ash deposits. Over time as the volcano continues to erupt, it will get bigger and bigger!

TYPES OF VOLCANOES : There are three main types of a volcano – composite or strato, shield and dome. Composite volcanoes, sometimes known as strato volcanoes, are steep sided cones formed from layers of ash [lava]flows. The eruptions from these volcanoes maybe a pyroclastic flow rather than a lava flow.

FACTS ABOUT…POMPEII! Mount Vesuvius, a volcano near the bay of Naples in Italy, is hundreds of thousands of years old and has erupted more than 50 times. It’s the most famous eruption and took place in the year 79AD .When the volcano erupted it buried the ancient roman city of Pompeii under a thick carpet.

Scientists studying volcanoes
The term volcanology is derived from the Latin word Vulcan. Vulcan was the ancient roman god of fire. A volcanologist is a geologists who studied the erupted activity, and formation of volcanoes, and their current and historic eruptions.

Famous volcanoes: Mount Fuji is officially classified as an active volcano, but some describe it as a *dormant. *dormant-it will erupt, but not soon. The last eruption was on 16th December 1707 (Melyssa’s birthday!) Mount St . Helens is most notorious for its major 1980 eruption, the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in the history of the United States.

Volcanoes today- in Bali
Mount Agung is a volcano in Bali. It’s a strato volcano, it’s the highest point in Bali. Mount Agung is belching out plumes of horrible ash and gas, as it continues to erupt in Bali. After starting to erupt at the weekend, experts are warning that Mount Agung could be building up to a more violent explosion! By: Melyssa and Purbita
