College Application Week: is September 26th – 30th This is a week that focuses on Seniors applying to college. However, it also encourages students in grades K-12 to focus on college planning through various events that are offered during this week.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
There are various ways to plan to pay for college. Students in TN can apply for FAFSA, and/or scholarships. Many colleges offer numerous scholarship options which may be academic, or athletic. Students may also apply for Federal Grants and Loans through FAFSA. Students can also apply for work-study, and work while they attend college. The option which is best for you can be decided by assessing where you would like to attend, and how much your college tuition will cost.

FAFSA FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid
Students who are planning to attend college may complete a FAFSA application. The FAFSA application allows students to request financial assistance from the Federal Government in order to pay for college. This application has to be completed every year that a student plans to receive financial support from the Federal Government.

FAFSA Based on a student’s financial need, the federal government may award financial assistance in the form of grants, loans, and/or work-study Students will be informed whether or not the financial awards are repayable when they receive their disbursements each year. FAFSA is normally applied for on January 1st of each year. However, this is the first year that the federal government has decided to allow students to apply for FAFSA starting OCTOBER 1st. TN Hope Scholarship Qualifications for incoming College Freshmen:
Apply by completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Have been a TN resident for one year by Sept. 1st of the application date. Graduate from a TN eligible high school Enrollment in one of the Tennessee public colleges, universities, or private colleges. Entering College Freshmen must achieve a minimum score of 21 on the ACT or 980on the SAT. Overall weighted minimum 3.0 GPA (Grade Point Average). ACT/SAT tests must be taken on a national test date or state test date. Must enroll within 16 months after high school graduation.

TN Hope Scholarship Award Amounts:
For entering college Freshmen beginning with Fall 2015 and after. Four-Year and Two-Year institutions with on campus housing for Freshmen and Sophomore: $1750 fulltime enrollment Four-Year and Two-Year institutions with on campus housing for Junior and Senior: $2250 fulltime enrollment Two –Year institutions: Up to $1,500 for full-time enrollment Summer Award amounts are available for Summer Enrollment (the post secondary institution will determine class status)

TN Hope Scholarship Termination Criteria:
Any student who receives the HOPE Scholarship in Fall 2009 and after will receive awards until: Student has earned a baccalaureate degree It has been five years since the initial enrollment at any post-secondary institution The student has attempted 120 semester hours and/or has received the HOPE scholarship for eight full-time semesters at any post-secondary institution. Students who enroll in a program of study that exceeds 120 semester hours may continue to receive the HOPE scholarship until: a. They have received a baccalaureate degree b. 5 years have passed since initial enrollment c. Student has attempted at any post-secondary institution 136semester hours/ or completed 8 full-time semester hours

TN Promise Scholarship
Overview: TN Promise Scholarship allows graduating Seniors to apply for two-years of tuition-free attendance at any community technical college in Tennessee TN Promise is a dual program that allows incoming Freshmen the opportunity to receive both a scholarship and mentoring that is focused on increasing the number of students that attend college in the state of TN. The TN Promise scholarship will cover tuition, and other fees not covered by the PELL grant, the HOPE scholarship, or state student assistant funds

Requirements and Deadlines: Apply to the Program by the set deadline File the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Attendance is mandatory at two scheduled meetings facilitated by the local partnering organization. Non-Attendance at the two mandatory meetings will automatically result in the loss of the TN Promise. Completion of 8 hours of community service for each semester that they receive TN Promise funding. Community service hours must be completed before the start of each term. So, the first 8 hrs have to be completed the Summer prior to enrolling in a community college.

TN Promise Scholarship
Apply to and enroll in an eligible institution. Complete FAFSA verification if required by the institution of attendance Each phase of TN Promise will require the student to complete the requirements; failure to do so will result in the loss of the scholarship.

TN Promise Scholarship
The TN Promise scholarship may be used at any of the following institutions in the state of TN: 13 community Colleges 27 Colleges of Applied Technology Other eligible institutions that offer an associate degree program.

TN Promise Scholarship
TN Promise Program Benefits: Financial Assistance with college tuition Mentoring Program Access to a mentor who will assist the student with the college admissions program Students complete eight hours of community service hours per term of enrollment Students also must maintain satisfactory academic progress, and have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA at their institution.

Values inventory – The values inventory allows you to determine what you value, and how it applies to your professional future. Skills Inventory – The skills inventory allows you to explore your skills and how they relate to possible career options Learning Styles Inventory – The learning styles inventory helps you to figure out how you learn best and remember the information that you receive.
