The project holds some main ideas
1. Interdisciplinary – social science
2. The idea of thematic groups – with seniors, pos—docs, PhD students and masters.
3. Not only Makerere – people from the other public universities involved.
3. Thematic areas (livelyhoods, health policy, vulnerabilities etc )
Different level of researchers in each theme: seniors, post-docs, PhD students as well as more junior students.

Six ”local” PhD students and two sandwich students.
All have been provisionally registered
Three have been fully registered after defending their proposals. One is delayed others expect to be fully registered.
Double degree for the two sandwich students. All are in favour of the idea, but has administrative challenges. – More later.

5. Post doc projects and Masters students

IN the application we have prepared for 5 post-docs. (one for each thematic area).
Three have been nominated and they have started their projects.
Two more posts were recently announced are recently recruited.

Senior research -
8 senior researchers with short term projects have started
5 more researchers also funded within the project.
Many of the above are involved in supervision with PhD students and Masters students.

Double degree
Why?
Advantage for PhD students to get contacts and relations to two universities and to have a degree also from a Swedish university
Good for both departments and universities in terms of internationalization and continues cooperation.
Make the research (from Makerere) more visibel in a Swedish context.
Makes this project visible in Swedish universities.
