1 2.3 Grphing Davis

2 In your composition book take 20 mins and define the following terms.
1. Mass 2. Matter 3. Kilogram 4. Gram 5. Weight 6. Volume 7. Density 8. Graph 9. Scatterplot 10.Independent variable 11.Dependent variable 12.Mixes Tucs 13.Direct relationship 14.Inverse relationship Bellringer

3 Types of graphs Graphs: is a visual way to organize data
Line Graph: often used to show trends in data over time Types of graphs

4 Bar graph/ Pie graph Bar graph: compares groups of information
Pie graph: is a circular graph that shows how a whole is divided into percentages. Bar graph/ Pie graph <-- pie graph Bar Graph 

5 Scatterplot/ Line graph
scatterplot aka (XY graph): used to determine if 2 variables are related. Commonly used in in science Usually has an: -Independent variable: the variable you believe might influence another variable - Dependent variable: the variable that may be influenced by the independent variable. Scatterplot/ Line graph

6 MIXES TUCS M: maximize your graph (use all of the graph paper)
IX: independent variable on x-axis (dependent variable on y-axis) ES: equally spaced scale increments (start at 0) T: title (y-variable vs. x-variable) U: units and labels on both axes CS: continuous smooth curves to connect the data points. MIXES TUCS

7 Identifying relationships between variables on a graph
Direct relationship: a relationship in which one variable increases with an increase in another variable. Inverse relationship: a relationship in which one variable decreases when another variable increases. No relationship: the graph looks like a collection of graphs, no pattern appears. Identifying relationships between variables on a graph

8 Direct Relationship

9 Inverse Relationship

10 No Relationship

11 Write the questions and answer on a separate piece of paper
