Significant Developments
Individuality and solitude are taboo in the World State (see Bernard and Lenina’s “date” on p ) Bernard and Lenina visit the “Savage Reservation.” What is this? Who lives there? What do Bernard and Lenina’s reactions to this place tell us about the World State? This section introduces us to John (The Savage) and Linda (his mother). What perspectives on the contrast between the Reservation and the World State do these characters offer?

Significant Developments
Chapter 10 sees the fruition of Bernard’s plan to discredit the Director (who, we find out, is John’s father). Chapter 11 begins John’s true introduction to the “civilized” world he has only heard about from his mother. Again, the “outsider’s” perspective that John has on the World State is significant here. John visits a factory and a school on p John and Lenina go to the “feelies” (p ) Why is John so horrified/disgusted by the factory and the feelie? Are we meant to share it? Why?
