They was bully stories about filing indians and killing bears and wolfs and cutting a notch in your gun when you had killed a nother indian, a feller can read one of them all day and sumbody is killed on every page and it is terrible xciting. Beedle dime died very ritch and they don’t sell enny of his novels now. It is too bad for they was the best I have ever seen.” Richard E. Shute

Summary Scorned childhood friend hires outlaws to kidnap Davy Crockett’s bride. Manages to lose her three times, during which childhood friend Barbara Warner changes her mind about the kidnapping and parts ways with the outlaws. Crockett finally manages to save his love after Barbara kills the Border Wolf and sacrifices herself for Rosebud Thornton. The outlaws get hanged throughout the story.

Science Astronomy Pharmacology Phrenology Supernatural
Talks about Jupiter leads the way across the sky. Was the way Davy told time. Pharmacology Poison used to subdue Rosebud Phrenology All the outlaws are ugly with scars, except for Barbara who in fact becomes good at the end. Barbara has black eyes and has dark hair. Supernatural Ghosts are believed to be in the mill. Old Crone is believed to be a witch. Border Wolf thinks that Crockett is coming back from the dead for him.

Close Reading Science works in the favor of the outlaws more than the protagonist. However, technology works for the protagonist more than the antagonist. Outlaws are terrible at aiming and always miss.

Conclusion Technology and Science plays a part in the story, however the story focuses on entertaining the reader with heroic tales of Davy Crockett.
