About Franklin She was born on July 25, 1920 and she died on April 16, 1958 She was British She knew DNA existed but she did not discover its shape She graduated from Cambridge University majored in x-ray crystallography.

Main ACHEIVMENT Took the first picture of DNA by using x-ray crystallography. X-ray Crystallography- Way of determining the molecular structure of a crystal and also happens to be able to break down and reveal DNA. Franklin also found out that there were were A & B strands of DNA, which she later found out how to separate.

Crick and Watson In April of 1953 Francis Crick and James Watson discovered the shape of DNA. They found out DNA was in a double helix shape. Although Franklin did not figure this out herself, her research led to the discovery. She took pictures of DNA using X-ray crystallographic methods, which Crick and Watson studied. By looking at the pictures they could find clues that hinted at the helical structure.

Noble prize Franklin was never nominated for a noble prize because she died in 1958 and Watson, Crick, and Wilkins won the noble prize in 1962.
