2. What is the Green School Committee?
The Green School Committee is committed to promoting responsible environmental stewardship practices and increase awareness of how our relationship with the environment ultimately impacts public health and society. We enrich education by integrating hands-on, inquiry-based instruction, to empower students to practically apply knowledge at school and home that encourages sustainable practices.

3. What are some ways we are being “green” school wide?
Turning off classroom lights, computers, and projectors - Energy Savers!
Recycling and reducing paper use
Conserving water
Celebrating green practices - Green Apple Day of Service
Habitat restoration in the outdoor classroom
Waste reduction - Waste free Wednesdays and ParentSquare
Terrapins in Fifth Grade
County wide new curriculum and instruction
Composting
OC2 Club is sharing information in the morning announcements
Earth day, canning, crayon collection, bike to school day

4. Green School Re-certification
Green School Application
This year we will be completing our last re-certification to become a Sustainable Maryland Green School. We will complete the application and process through the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE).
“The Maryland Green School Award lasts for four years. Schools apply after doing the required green activities for at least two years. Schools re-certify twice, and then after their third consecutive re- certification become a Sustainable Maryland Green School. This amounts to a fourteen year process, showing that your school’s environmental culture is enduring.”
