2 1. Open up the ScratchJr app

3 You should now see this loading screen

4 2. Open a new project

5 You should now see this screen

6 3. Click on the background icon at the top of the screen (circled in red)

7 You should now see this screen

8 4. Double click on the Savannah background

9 Your screen should now look like this

10 5. Click on the add character button

11 Your screen should look like this

12 6. Double click your preferred animal

13 Your screen should look like this

14 7. Press and hold the cat character

15 Your screen will look like this

16 8. Click the red X to delete the cat

17 Your screen should look like this

18 9. Drag and drop the giraffe onto the edge of the screen

19 Then click the ‘start’ icon (2)

20 10. Drag the green start tile onto the white section below

21 Your screen should look like this

22 11. Click on the blue ‘movement’ icon

23 Drag the forward tile onto the white section below and ‘click’ it with the start tile
NOTE: You can change the number of forward movements the object takes by clicking the number ‘1’ and typing the new number in (see photo)

24 12. Click the purple ‘actions’ icon

25 Drag the speech tile onto the white section below

26 13. Click on the writing and type what you want the character to say

Your screen should now look like this. Do this again and write the question

28 14. Click on the orange ‘timing’ tile

29 Drag the ‘wait’ tile onto the white section below
NOTE: You can change the timing of the pause by clicking the number ‘1’ and typing the new number in (see photo)

30 15. Click on the purple ‘actions’ icon

31 Drag another speech tile onto the white section and congratulate the player

32 16. Then write an farewell note in another speech tile

33 You can add as many as you like

34 17. Click on the blue ‘movement’ icon again

35 Drag a forward tile onto the white section below
NOTE: Remember to change the number of the forward movement so the character walks off the page (see photo)

36 18. Click on the purple ‘actions’ icon and drag the ‘hide’ tile onto the white section

37 19. Click on the ‘new slide’ icon

38 Remember to change the back ground and character for your new slide

39 20. Go back to the first slide and click on the red ‘endings’ icon

40 Drag the ending tile that has a small picture of the second slide on it onto the white section

41 21. To play your activity press the green start button at the beginning of your chain of commands on the white section

42 22. To put the activity into full screen mode click the full screen icon at the top of the screen

43 You will now see the green play icon in the top right hand corner of the screen
