1960s music genres Rock Rock and roll was one of the most popular music genres in the 1950s , rock music really came into its own in the 1960s. Rock and Roll originated and evolved in the United States. Quite a few rock bands and musicians wave between these genres depending on what was popular at the time and used it as a way to experiment with finding their own true sound. Some of the rock subgenres that we will touch upon are surf, psychedelic, roots, and hard rock. Blues rock Blues rock was originated by African Americans during the slavery times. The slaves used the Blues to express their emotions and to keep their spirits high. They used call and response in which phrases from a lead singer were followed by the others. The Blues moved towards the 19th century and the early style of Blues was also known as Country Blues. Blues rock is a subgenre of rock which developed in the late 1960s. One of the original bands in the 1960s were Cream. Pop Pop music was influenced by American Blues, especially in the United States. The well known Pop groups were The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. In the late 70s, The Monkees and Chubby Checker were popular in the pop genre.

Elvis Presley Elvis Presley (born Elvis Aaron Presley) was a well known American musician and actor. He who made well known rock songs such as “Mystery Train”, “Heartbreak hotel” and “Burning Love”, was one of the biggest Rock n Roll singers in the 1950s. The star was born on the 8th of January, 1935 in Tupelo Mississippi. He grew up to become one of the best Rock n Roll singers in the 1950s and appeared on the radio. His number one hit song, “Heartbreak hotel” was made in He also made his first film “Love me tender” in 1956.
