You should be able to cite 1-2 things that they learned that they did not know before watching the clips. Video 1 Water Changes Everything Video 2 The Coming Global Water Crisis ASK: How is it that we continue to have fresh water since water is not a resource that we can increase?

Popcorn Read Interesting Water Facts
75% of the earth is covered with water. 97% of earth's water is in the oceans. Only 3% of the earth's water can be used as drinking water. 75% of the world's fresh water is frozen in the polar ice caps. If all the world's water were fit into a gallon jug, the fresh water available for us to use would equal only about one tablespoon. Although a person can live without food for more than a month, a person can only live without water for approximately one week. Of the 22 Arab League nations including the UAE, eight have the lowest water availability in the world though the UAE is one of the highest water consuming countries.

Desalination is the major source of potable water in the UAE. Dubai alone uses 98.8 percent of the water from desalination. Only 1.2 percent comes from ground water." 1.2 billion people worldwide do not have access to clean water. The earth is a closed system, meaning that it rarely loses or gains extra matter. The same water that existed on the earth millions of years ago is still present today. By the time a person feels thirsty, his or her body has lost over 1 percent of its total water amount. The weight a person loses directly after intense physical activity is weight from water, not fat.

Water, Water Everywhere
Show this video, “Water, Water Everywhere” (6:31) that explains what the water cycle is and how important it is to life on Earth:

Video: The Water Cycle Why does it rain?
What effect does water have on climate? Why it is important to study the water cycle? Which parts of the water cycle require energy from the sun? Which parts of the water cycle require the water molecules to give away heat energy (cool down)? Which parts of the water cycle are caused by the force of gravity?

Wow !!! Share one “WOW!” thing that they learned today.
(“Wow!” things are those new pieces of information that students think that they will likely repeat to someone else because they were really surprised to learn the information. )
