IT Demonstrating Sue Vecsey Student Digital Skills Officer Faculty of Medical Sciences Our demonstrators are an essential part of the teaching team providing academic IT skills to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Medical Sciences. We rely on our postgraduate demonstrators to deliver high quality teaching to thousands of students each year

2 What is the teaching? Using online tutorials to teach academic IT Skills. Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel Microsfot PowerPoint Academic IT skills Word Excel PowerPoint All UG and PG students in FMS, PG in SAgE 450+ hours annually Online tutorials Led by a qualified teacher Problem-based, student-led approach Learning linked to assessment

3 What’s involved? Work in a team of up to 3 inc session lead (staff).
Working in the computer clusters. Most sessions last for 2 hours. Sessions are allocated evenly across the dem team of ~15 students. Up to 90 students. 2-6 hours per month. Each week is different. Sessions are allocated according to availability. Payment month in arrears. 4 Responsibilities of a Demonstrator
Prepare thoroughly. Answer student queries. Seek advice and guidance from other members of the teaching team. Frequent reflective practice following each teaching session.

7 Application process Submit Application form and 3 completed courses
Complete further courses and attend training session Hired as a dem and begin employment Starts in May Notified early August If invited to proceed Training in September If invited to proceed Training approved by UTLC and PVC TL 2009 Compulsory for new dems Expected for returning dems ILTHE not required but advised Training important because: You need to know what the role involves We need to know you have the necessary skills Part training, part interview Paid at half-rate Distributed by Available online Send back to Sue Vecsey/IT Skills Support Teaching starts Freshers’ week
