Sports journalism Qualifcations required for being a sports journalist: most sports journalism employers prefer staff to have a Bachelors degree, masters in journalism or media communications or specialize in Sports Journalism. There are many jobs involved across sports journalism such as: Sports writers/reporters for print media (including newspapers and magazines) Sports editors for print media (including newspapers and magazines) Hosts of radio or television sports shows Sports announcers/commentators for radio or television Sports writers/reporters for television or radio broadcasts Pro and cons of being a freelancer Pros : Freedom with a flexible schedule, hours and location - Ownership: you can do anything you want -choosing who you want to work with - Unlimited earning potential Cons: Isolation – no contact with anyone as you're working By yourself Variable Income – your wage is dependent if you are Successful or not Varied workloads – There will be - manage variable workloads and balance multiple competing priorities and deadlines. Skills to be a sports broadcaster: Strong communication and speaking skills ability to improvise must be able to meet deadlines Strong knowledge of the sport Skills required to be a sports editor: Passionate about sports Blogging and social media content creation skills General knowledge about sports in general.
