3. LEGAL REGULATIONS – energy performance of buildings
Legal base for this area is the Directive 2010/31/EU.
Basic mandatory building energy codes related to energy performance of buildings in the Slovak Republic are:

Act No. 314/2012 Coll. on regular inspection of heating and air-conditioning systems (the competence of Ministry of Economy SR)

4. Buildings renovation as a source of energy savings
Renovation of residential and non-residential buildings is the most effective source of energy savings in Slovakia and the basic prerequisite for the fulfilment of the targets set in energy efficiency area of the Slovak republic
Renovation of the current building stock is also important to save the buildings before the end of their economic life (the majority of the building units has been built before 1992, the buildings older than 20 years have to be refurbished)
Active approach of the residential buildings owners to renovation is therefore inevitable (almost 95 % of the residential buildings stock is in the ownership)
The key to reach the targeted savings is to create the conditions to renovate yearly 3 % of the current national building stock in Slovakia and put an attention specifically to the renovation of public buildings

5. Energy savings potential in buildings in the Slovak Republic
Sector of Industry and sector of Buildings represent two areas with the highest energy savings potential in Slovakia. Savings potential of industry of the Slovak Republic with a big share of energy intensive industry has its limits.

Information about refurbishment is collected and disseminated for facilitating owners´know-how (or for administrators of residential buildings) about best practices in the building insulation

9. Financial mechanisms – the necessity in supporting building renovation
Preferential credits provided by the State Fund of Housing Development is the tool that is used most by owners (administrations of owners) of residential buildings for renovation purpose due to long-term credits at preferential interest rates.
