Fossil Fuels are currently the world's primary energy source
Fossil Fuels are formed from organic materials over the course of Millions of years
The burning of Fossil Fuels produces around 21.3 billion tonnes of CARBON DIOXIDE (CO2)
Natural Gas is the cleanest of all Fossil Fuels

3. What type of energy is used when generating electricity from fossil fuels?
Coal > The coal is (potential) then they light the coal (heat) and boil water over it. The steam from the water turns the turbines (kinetic) which generates electricity.
Oil > The oil is (potential) then they light the chemical fire fueled by the oil (heat) and boil water over it. The steam from the water turns the turbines (kinetic) which generates electricity.
Gas > The gas is (potential)than they light the chemical fire fueled by the gas (heat) and boil water over it. The steam from the water turns the turbines (kinetic) which generates electricity.

4. How much Irish Electricity comes from this?
Lots of Ireland's Energy come from fossil fuels (96%)
Oil=56%
Gas=31%
Coal=10%
The remaining 3% of Ireland's Energy the comes from biofuels such as ethanol from crops

5. How do we harness the energy?
Coal > They light the coal and boil water over it. The steam from the water turns the turbines which generates electricity that is sent through wires to households

6. Advantages of Fossil Fuels
Cheap Source of ENERGY : Fossil Fuels are some of the cheapest fuels on the planet. Although they can be expensive to extract the investment is very high
Safe to Transport : Because Fossil Fuels are safe and stable they can be transported easily and efficiently over long distances
Abundant : Because Fossil Fuels are able to satisfy and serve the needs of many people in the world means they are found in nearly every country in the world

7. Disadvantages of Fossil Fuels
Non Renewable : The supply of Fossil Fuels is limited and once they've been used they can’t be used again
Impact on the Environment : Fossil Fuels can cause major pollution. For example , When gas is burnt CARBON DIOXIDE (CO2) is produced. This is one of the main causes of GLOBAL WARMING
Accidents can be Dangerous : Accidents involving Fossil Fuels are highly dangerous and can cause massive damages
