2. Reducing the pressure on hospitals: A report on the value of occupational therapy
The College published a report in all four UK nations
With quantitative and qualitative evidence gathered from services around the UK
Demonstrating innovative working – with occupational therapists working in A&E departments, ambulance services and GP practices all working toward a shared goal of keeping people out of hospital, reducing the length of stay in hospital and ensuring a timely and safe discharge
The second report will be launched in July, looking at the deployment of occupational therapists in primary and social care settings to improve care for older people.

4. Prisons- the value of occupational therapy
(UK wide document)
Recommendation 1.
Occupational therapy is embedded within prison services, to promote health and build in protective factors to reduce risk of reoffending.
Recommendation 2:
Occupational therapists advise on the design of existing and future prison estate for health care provision and delivery of services.

5. Occupational therapists should be embedded within prison services:
 to promote health and wellbeing for offenders
 to translate a desistence approach into effective interventions
appropriate to the needs of the person
 to build in protective factors to reduce risk of reoffending.

6. The prison service should use occupational therapists to:
 Advise on the design of buildings such as work sheds to encourage
productive engagement and accessibility.
 Minimise potential risks in the prison environment through the
provision of equipment and adaptations.
 Provide cost effective solutions for older prisoners care (single
handed care, telecare, prison design advice).
 Forge partnerships with prison healthcare services to identify current
needs of the ageing prison population.
 Act in an advisory capacity between the Ministry and Justice and
builders of future prisons.
