My Magazine The Pitch Jamie Long

This is Mode Magazine Mode Magazine is a fashion magazine, specifically high-street fashion. The subject of fashion faces huge competition in the market but I feel that many competitors focus on high-end fashion; this is why I want to really focus on high-street fashion that more people can afford. The magazine will be released quarterly, with each issue focusing on the seasons. (Spring Issue, Summer Issue, Autumn Issue, Winter Issue). The magazine will be prices at £2.99, to fit in with the average price of magazines in its market place. The first issue of the magazine will be priced at £2; this has been done to entice the audience into buying the first issue. Giving a discount for the first edition will bring an audience in to try the magazine out, as the will be unfamiliar with the title

The idea behind the name
I wanted to give the magazine a title that represented the subject area, but didn’t belittle the reader. For example, I did not want to give the magazine a title that shows it focuses specifically on cheap fashion, I did not want to give the magazine a sense of worthlessness. Due to the large amount of fashion titles in the UK, it was difficult to find a name for the magazine that did not already exist in the country. My favourite idea for the title is ‘Mode’. Mode simply means fashion in French. French is known as the country of fashion, with Paris well known as the ‘Fashion Capital’, featuring some of the most exquisite stores. I feel that giving the magazine a French title gives the magazine a more upmarket feeling, even though I will be focusing on cheap clothes. ‘La Mode’ was my original idea meaning ‘The Fashion’ but I feel that MODE gives more of an impact and is more direct.

Modes Target Audience Mode will target females between the ages of This target audience was found through primary research, in which the most interest in fashion was within this age bracket. It makes sense to target my magazine towards this demographic due to their keen interest in fashion. Due to the younger age of the audience they are also likely to have less money to spend on clothing also meaning that the magazines with the expensive outfits will not overly appeal to them. This age demographic will be keen to hear all about the latest high street fashion bargains and where to shop if they want to 'look good for less'

Advertising Mode Heavy advertisement for Mode magazine is incredibly important. I want the release of the first issue to get off to a successful start and feel that advertising the magazine heavily will help it to reach as many people, within my target audience, as possible. Social media is the number one place to advertise Mode magazine. Social media is incredibly popular with my target audience, with the majority using Twitter, Facebook and Instagram regularly. I feel that I will really be able to reach out to the specific audience by advertising here. I found some fantastic ways to advertise the magazine through research of other social media accounts from other popular UK magazines.

Modes unique selling point
The unique selling point of mode magazine, is that is one of few magazines that focus on cheaper, younger fashion. We are not trying to target middle aged mothers or high-earning, successful business men, instead we are focusing on finding the fashion that matters to young people. I feel that focusing on cheaper fashion will really draw my audience towards my magazine. The main features will be continued in each issue to engage the audience, they will have their own favourite part of the magazine that they turn to every time they buy an issue. Interaction is also a heavy factor. Making the reader feel valued and included is incredibly important. The use of social media, and comment sections online will allow the consumer to post their own views and opinions on featured fashion outfits; as well as interacting with the magazine, consumers can also engage with each other through closely monitored social media. Opinions posted on social media will also mean that I can see what works and what doesn’t in terms of the magazine helping me to create content for future issues.

The Design of Mode Light but eye catching colours will feature on the front cover of the magazine. Many magazines feature bold reds or yellows to instantly grab attention, however, I wanted to take a different approach by using light and airy colours that still stick out amongst other magazines. Blue will be heavily dominant on the magazine cover, not only will this stand out from other magazines with alternative colours schemes, but blue is also the colours scientifically proven to represent and bring calmness. The colours scheme will continue throughout most of the magazine, but each feature will have its own relatable colours scheme. For example an autumn feature will include oranges and yellows, this will increase the visual effect.

First time features for Mode
A social media page, featuring comments from the audience. Comments will be moderated. People can share ideas and opinions, interacting not only with the magazine but engaging with each other. Social media engagement also increase presence online and help to push my magazine towards a wider audience. The first issue will focus on winter wear as this is most relevant to its release date, this will be the focus of another continuous feature ‘Top 10 picks of the season’ Each outfit or clothing item will take the user to an external link (store website) where they can view the item further and purchase it from stores.
