ITS Integrator User Certification Program
Presenter: Peet du Plessis Date: 12 March 2014
2
Background Identified the need for Certification of ITS Integrator System Users on various levels of skills The qualification will indicate the level of competency of a user in a particular functional area Aligned with certified training offered by other software providers, e.g. Oracle Project kicked off in 2012
3
The Development Phase The project kicked off in 2012 with the identification of the various areas of specialization within the 3 main functional sub-systems, i.e.: Student Management System Financial Management System HR and Payroll Management System Development of study manuals commenced in 2012 32 Manuals had to be compiled for each system-supported functionality e.g. Academic structure; Finance Code Structure, etc. This was a mammoth task as some of the manuals turned out to be in access of 250 pages The System Consultants Team had to do the compilation of the manuals in addition to their normal workload Curricula for each qualification per area of specialization on the 3 levels of competency was also done

Introduction to the User Community
The ITS Integrator Certification Training programs were introduced to the User Community at the 2013 User Group Conference Status of: Study manuals Credits per module Program credits Fee structure Plan was to kick off in the 2nd trimester in April 2013 with at first only AdaptIT Pretoria staff members as a pilot group
5
The Pilot Group Program Credits and fees structure was only finalised in June 2013 Program prospectus could only then be published and circulated AdaptIT Pretoria staff was invited to apply for the transactional level program RPL or Lectures Scheduling had to fit in with other higher priorities Lectured format was postponed First RPL Assessments were done in November for 15 staff members in 9 modules on the Transactional Level RPL candidates were requested to give their feedback on various aspects i.e.: academic level of the assessment the format and standard of the manuals course administration

Lessons Learned from the Pilot Group
Steep learning curve for all involved Huge potential for developing as a very important qualification for the ITS Integrator Users – indicator of competencies Study manuals must be split for Transactional level and Controlling level – only one manual is confusing Study manuals was developed in 2012 on Version 1 – now outdated Need to get an expert material developer to assist Consultants Team with the format and presentation of the study manuals Ensure that the assessments are aligned with the manual and the level Revise the lectured format of presentation To detailed process of application and registration
7
The Way Forward Assign resources during 2014 to:
Split the current study manuals into the transactional level and the controlling level Update the content to Version 3 Acquire the assistance from an expert study material developer Align the assessments with the content of the study manuals and the levels Change the lectured format of presentation to a fully fledged distance learning format with on-line support to students and an assignment Students must have access to a test environment at their institution for the practical exercises Retain the optional practical examination preparatory sessions Revise the fee structure Streamline the application and registration process Revise the program prospective
8
The Way Forward (continued)
AdaptIT Pretoria will continue with the RPL process of the pilot group and issue first certificates to candidates who complete the program The Professional User Level will not have study manuals as the Controller Level qualification is a pre-requisite Professional Level assessment will be a case study based over multiple silo’s of functionality Anticipated roll-out to the User Community in the second half of 2014 Concerted marketing effort to reach all users once the above mentioned is completed
