2 Rules to Remember LInX/D-DEx and Remote Systems (i.e. NDEx) CAN NOT be used for the following: General Licensing, Permits or Benefit Eligibility, including liquor, taxi, exotic dancer, gun, welfare or disability benefits. Non-Criminal Justice Employment purposes (daycare, school, city employees) Background or Security Clearance Investigations Self-Inquiries, curiosity searches or browsing, such as neighbors, celebrities, family, friends.

3 Rules to Remember, cont. If Information from LInX/DDEx or Remote Systems (i.e. NDEx) is USED for Probable Cause, the LE Agency must Validate and Obtain Permission from the Agency that owns the Information. Also obtain the Official Report from the Record Owning Agency. Temporary Printing of LInX/DDEx or Remote Systems (i.e. NDEx) is for 72 hours only as allowed by the Region Governance Boards. Some say NO PRINTING. If there is not a PRINT BUTTON on the document, you may not print. Purpose Codes and Justifications Purpose Codes Required for Searches: (C=Criminal, J=Emp for Your Agency, A= Do not Use) Justifications Required for Searches: Case Numbers, incident number, arrest number, warrant number, booking, project name, or if no direct number, details of search must be included. If a search is on behalf of an individual and/or agency, name and agency must be included with the case number.

5 Getting Started Contact either Alyce Reichardt or Beth Hall to be assigned a username and password. You’ll have to immediately reset your password and create security questions when you log into the system for the first time.

6 Important Query/Search Tools to Know:
WILDCARDS In LInX, the wild card is a % (percentage sign): Examples: J%, first name starting with a J as in James, John or Jerry KIM%, first name starting with Kim as in Kimberly, Kimmy or Kimber CENT% STREET: Street name that stars with Cent, Central, Center and Centre. %wood, all words ending with wood such as Lakewood, Oakwood, Greenwood or Pinewood 4%SP68%, Partial plates where someone may say “something like this” or included these For Different Spellings: Ta%er can be “Taser” or Tazer” Corvette can be “Corvett%, Covert% or %vett

7 Important Query/Search Tools to Know, cont.:
Boolean Characters AND: Results containing all search terms on each document will be returned. Not necessarily together. Example: using the words RED AND CORVETTE will not necessarily show the words Red and Corvette together as in RED CORVETTE OR: Results containing either of the search terms on each document will be returned. For example: RED OR CORVETTE will show every document with the words Red and Corvette or both Red and Corvette AND NOT: Eliminates results contained after the word NOT such as: Murder and not knife “ “: Nests words together, such as “Cold Case” ( ): Allows search of terms nesting in the parentheses, such as Robbery and (Knife or Gun) and means that all search results that contain Knife and/or Gun as long as the document contains robbery as well

This is where you will have LInX run a person, vehicle, telephone number or address & notify you if there is a LE contact for that entity. Or if someone else queries that specific entity. Once you’re done, click on “Back to Home” to go back to your home page OR you can just click on your web browser's “back” button.

Search Results Increment: Change to 1000 Search results per page: change to 100 Search Results Columns: Add incident type & incident summary MAKE SURE YOU CLICK ON “SAVE” Click on your “back” button on your web browser or click “Back to Home” and then on “MY LINX”

29 This dropdown menu allows you to pick:
Criminal Justice (c) Criminal Justice Employment (J) Administrative File Maintenance You MUST enter a Case Report Number, Calls for Service Report Number, Type of Case or specific reason for the query. Please refer to earlier slides for details.

30 First, make sure you identify your purpose code and then enter your justification.
Next, enter in the name of the person you are trying to find or any other details you are looking for. You can use as much or as little details as you’d like. But remember, too few gives you too much and too little gives you nothing.
