7 SOUTHMEAD DATA OCTOBER - DECEMBER 2015 53 PRESENTATIONS TO ED
12 PATIENTS REQUIRING SPECIALIST INPUT AND/OR SURGERY

8 BRHC DATA DECEMBER 2015 - FEBRUARY 2016 24 NEW PATIENTS ATTENDANCES
9 PATIENTS REQUIRING SURGERY

9 BURDEN OF INJURIES 65 fracture clinic attendances 106 xray exposures
3 CT scans 3 MRI scans 3 x intra-operative fluoroscopy 7 in-patient overnight stays 1 USS 1 conscious sedation in ED

10 ANKLE TRIPLANE FRACTURE
14 X-ray exposures 1 CT 1 fluoroscopy episode 3 nights as IP 5 fracture clinic follow-ups

11 ELBOW FRACTURE DISLOCATION
Reduced in ED with conscious sedation 4 X-ray exposures 1 fracture clinic follow up

12 supracondylar fracture
6 Xray exposures 1 fluoroscopy episode 4 fracture clinic follow-ups 1 night in-patient stay

13 bimalleolar ankle fracture
1 night inpatient stay 2 Xrays 1 episode of fluoroscopy follow up undertaken at another hospital

14 COSTS AMBULANCE ED ATTENDANCE 24 x £132 = £3168 XRAY 106 x £30 = £3180
MRI CT FRACTURE CLINIC 65 x £150 = £9750 INPATIENT BED FOR ONE NIGHT 4 x £1565 = £ x £303 = £606 SURGERY variable other costs - plaster techs, physiotherapy (average cost £42 per appointment), admin, injuries other than orthopaedics (plastic, dental etc), impact on ED waiting times

15 ROSPA ADVICE 75% injuries >1person bouncing <6y more vulnerable
parent supervision of no benefit equipment upkeep <90 seconds without a break

16 Limitations of research
robust system e.g. medway data sharing other specialities e.g. plastics

17 AIR HOP DATA since opening 26th September 2015… 262,551 bouncers
accident rate 0.49% fractures / dislocations = 0.013% (35)

18 IATP grading system 0 - pre-existing
1 - minor (first aider but still bounce) 2 - moderate (prevents continuation) 3 - major (professional medical intervention > RICE) 4 - critical (life changing) follow up mechanisms equipment standards etc… / AirHop 4x15 mins

19 RECOMMENDATIONS co-ordinate regional data collection
regional collaborative audit of injuries mechanism age association improved first aid data sharing with AirHop + others NHS involvement

20 conclusions Trampoline parks with proper procedures are statically safer than home / garden trampolines Risk vs Benefit Healthcare services to take active role
