Fourth Grade Orientation

Student Objectives Reading
This year students will refine and master previously learned knowledge focusing on higher level thinking. Our goal is to create successful, lifelong readers. Language Arts In writing, students will participate in writer’s workshop incorporating grammar and the writing process. Social Studies Through exploration and research, students will learn about the state we live in, Texas. They will learn about its land, economics, resources, its many cultures and history.

Student Objectives Math
Our goal in Mathematics is to develop critical thinkers. During instruction, students participate in hands on experiences that include solving rigorous problems related to everyday life. Science The students conduct laboratory investigations in the classroom with science lab. They learn about the scientific method, safety procedures and environmentally appropriate and ethical practices.

Dismissal Procedures Please follow school guidelines for drop-off/pickup procedures. Communicate with teacher for clarification. If you won’t be able to pick up your child please send a signed note. We will not let student walk home without one. Please complete your pickup card(purple) and place it in the windshield of your vehicle.

Behavior Log All students will receive a behavior log every 3 weeks.
Behavior log will be used to keep track of their daily behavior. Students should not lose their behavior log, otherwise they will lose all their points accumulated. Our goal is to make our students responsible for their belongings.

Consequences Pink initials=Superhero status
Green initials = Ready to learn Yellow initials = Think about it Blue initials= Teacher choice Red initials = Parent Contact/Office Visit

Homework Procedures All homework will be based on classroom instruction. Homework includes the daily completion of the reading log. Students must put forth their best effort. Failure to complete homework= No recess, homework grade will be effected, parent contact.

Attendance It is critical for students to be present everyday on time so that they will not miss valuable instruction. The tardy bell rings at 7:45. Any student not in the classroom will be required to get a tardy slip.

Dress Code No hoop earrings
Shorts and skirts must be longer than your middle finger. Shirts cannot be longer than their middle finger No wrestling figures or skulls on attire. No mohawks or excessively colored hair. If you have any further questions about dress code policies, please consult the student handbook or contact the school office.
