Policies/Expectations
Electronic Policy – students must silence or turn off their phone and place it in the organizer at the front of the room by the time the bell rings. Late work – I do not accept it. Absences – students are responsible for obtaining the make-up work and have 3 days to turn in the work. Use the web site. No food or drink – plain water allowed

Activities/Assignments
Bell Ringer/ Voice Lessons-Students have 10 minutes to write a response to an excerpt that asks them to analyze Diction, Imagery, Details, Syntax, or Tone. Voice Lessons are collected every 10 entries. Worth 100 Points. AP Terms: Students will study 77 terms in order to recognize them when analyzing others’ writing and recognize them for the multiple choice portion of the exam. This weekly assignment begins September 11. -

Activities/Assignments Cont.
Weekly vocabulary study beginning September 11. Twenty words on each list. Voc. Cards due at the beginning of the week. Quizzes occur on Fridays and are cumulative. Multiple choice practices – tests are difficult! In class/ timed essay practices Current events and rhetorical précis Edmodo – required to join by September 5 and will have additional assignments to complete

Literature Summer reading: Students will turn in the typed assignment for The Scarlet Letter on Monday, August 28. Summer reading test is on Tuesday, Sept. 5. on On Writing and The Scarlet Letter. This course will include a chronological examination of American literature enriched with the selection of fiction and non-fiction. All novels are available at NWHS.

Research Paper We will complete a research paper during the 3rd quarter. Students will read a classic novel from an American author. Then research the author’s life and time period identifying three influences and how those influences affect the author’s writing/novel. We will complete the majority of the research, planning, and typing outside of class.
