1 Progression Routes By Luke Bower

2 Progression opportunities within the Creative media Sector
HE courses – Higher education like studying a degree at university Work experience – Unpaid work in return for the necessary experience. Training opportunities – A way of preparing an employee to undertake a task by giving them information about the specific task.

3 University UCAS stands for University and Colleges Admissions Services and it's the organisation through which your applications to universities are processed. Your final grade on your college course is very important, as this grade can covert into UCAS points, you can use these points to apply for university courses of your interest. When researching different university courses I discovered two courses that I might like to take up later on after I finish college. This course is a media course at Leeds Trinity University. By doing this course I can earn a degree in media and find a job with this qualification. I also found another course at Plymouth College of Art, which studies Contemporary Media Practice. By undertaking this course I can gain a degree in this area of field and further my education to prepare me for a job in the future.

4 Degree courses I have found a degree that I might consider taking and its at Plymouth College of Art studying Contemporary Media Practice. In this degree I will study – Year one I will cover audio visual creativity, writing, producing and photography, including multimedia and study of contemporary and performing arts, as well as television. The second year focuses on documentary and creative filmmaking, including directing, cinematography, editing, sound and moving image. The third year allows you to develop these skills further through a focus on innovative projects that will prepare you for your future career, including industry networking, transmedia storytelling and the opportunity to specialise in the skills you feel most passionately about. a1aba63f66b3&courseOptionId=8f619e31-f22b-75b d b

5 Degree courses I have found another degree course I may want to study. This is media at Leeds Trinity University. In this degree I will study – In year one I will study a range of cores modules that will cover practical and theoretical subjects. These will include Analysing Media and Culture, which will explore subjects such as advertising and news.   In year two I will study a range of modules including some of the subjects from year one in further detail. This will introduce me to the different fields of media, film and culture. In year three I will study one core Media module in  - Media, Film and Culture. I will get a choice out of – Media Production Portfolio A, Advanced Documentary and Advanced Short Film Production, Contemporary Cult TV, Contemporary Cultural Issues, Film and Television Adaptation, Science Fiction, PR Management, Specialist Magazine Writing, Entrepreneurship and Creativity, Professional Learning Through Work and a Negotiated Study module.

6 Pros and Cons of HE (Higher Education) courses
Qualified employees are paid more than none qualified colleagues. There may be a decline in careers in that subject on the year you graduate University gives you the opportunity to become an expert in a certain subject. It will cost a lot of money to undertake a degree.

7 Work experience I have found a professional photography company in my local area. I can approach this company about work experience. Pyramid Torbay, Pyramid Studios, 3 Parkfield House, Teignmouth Road, Torquay, Devon, TQ1 4EX I have also found an other example of possible work experience. Channel 4 offer work experience – In 2017 we will be inviting up to 60 amazing people, who are on a mission to get into TV, to spend a week with us at Channel 4. This is your opportunity to understand more about the insides of the Channel and gain hands on experience working with one of our teams.

8 Pros and Cons of Work experience
Work experience will enhance your application form and during interviews. Pressure on handling expectations when going into full time work because you’ve completed the work experience. Work experience will enhance the way you communicate, you will gain more experience about the industry and it will make you a master of basic skills in the industry. Also you can try out the job before committing to the degree You don’t get paid when undertaking work experience Work experience will build your confidence in a working environment.

9 Work experience You maybe able to get a job with just media work experience if you do a lot of it. If you do a lot of work experience you could become quite talented in a specific area and become quite appealing to a an employer. Apprenticeships do not constitute as work experience as it does not fall under the 2 week work experience spectrum. With an apprenticeship you are contracted to a specific job for 18 months.

10 Training In the creative media industry you can get training through certain training courses that some companies offer. Also there are numerous lower paid jobs which prove training for people. This will help them gain experience in a certain area. This company provides training experience in journalism to give people the correct understanding of the matter that they’ll be training towards

11 Pros and Cons of Training
It’s an easy way to set clear expectations. Employees can take their skills to a competitor. Better training can reduce long-term costs Cost of training. Employees that are properly trained are workers that will feel more confident about their job. Different people learn in different ways.  You maybe able to get a job with just training experience if you do a lot of it. If you do a lot of training, you could become quite talented in a specific area and become quite appealing to the employer.

12 Conclusion To conclude my PowerPoint, I have analyzed all three routes into the creative media industry and I would personally like to go down the university route. I would prefer this route as I feel like with the right teaching I could become an expert and learn all the techniques I need to learn. I feel like I wouldn’t be able to learn the same type of skills and gain the correct knowledge if I went down the other routes. When attending university I will be doing a course for three years, this is a longer time than work experience or training so the quality of my skills would be better at university. I will also be able to learn a lot ore in this time period.
