2. Background
Jesse Owens was born on September the 12th,1913 in Oakville, Alabama.
As a young child he went to East Technical High School ( the Ohio State University.)
During his high school education he won three track and field events at the 1933 National Interscholastic Championships.
Jesse Owens died from cancer on March the 31st, 1980.
Jesse Owens was a frail child, and was often sick from his battle with pneumonia.

3. Family
At the age of 9, Owens moved with his family to Cleveland, Ohio.
Jesse Owen’s wife was called Minnie Ruth Solomon, they met when he was 15 and she was 13.
Jesse Owen’s wife gave birth to their first daughter Gloria on August the 8th, 1932.
Five years later, in 1937, the couple's second daughter, Marlene, was born, and Beverly, the youngest daughter, was born in 1940.

4. The significant event.
The reason why Jesse Owens is considered a black hero is because in his lifetime he did something very exceptional.
During the time Hitler was prime minister, he was desperately trying kill all black people. While this was happening Jesse had a dream to go to the Olympics.
