2 The Swedish National Archives
Who we are: one of the oldest public agencies in Sweden. have the supervision of all public records of the agencies of the central Government. commissioned by law to preserve, organise and care for public records in order to uphold the legal right of access to those records. Riksarkivet) is one of the oldest public agencies in Sweden, its history leading back to the Middle Ages. In the 17th century, Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna created a new organization for the record-keeping and the National Archives came into being. Today, the National Archives has the supervision of all public records of the agencies of the central Government, at the same time as the regional archives supervise records generated by regional and local authorities. We receive and preserve records from public administration as well as from private corporations and individuals, and make them available for research. Rome, 17 February 2010

3 The National Archives has been/still is a partner in several EU funded projects concerning digitisation, Internet access and digital preservation like EUAN, Minerva, MinervaPlus, MinervaEC, LEAF, QVIZ, APEnet/APEx, PROTAGE, DC-net, and Linked Heritage.

4 The partner RA Two parts of the National Archives participate in DCH-RP: The divison that preserve long-time electronic records DIGISAM - National coordination secretariat of digitisation, digital preservation and digital access to cultural heritage

5 Digisam Since the National Archives is commissioned by the Swedish Government to host a secretariat for coordination of digitisation, on line access and digital preservation for all state cultural heritage institutions (Digisam). The main task of Digisam is coordination of digitisation activities and supporting the goals set up by the Government in the Swedish national strategy or digitisation of cultural heritage.

6 The task of Digisam DIGISAM will coordinate the work with national digital strategy and between : Present recommendations for coordinated digital information management of collections and holdings. Develop proposals for cost-effective long-term digital preservation of collections and holdings. Define roles and responsibilities for the work on aggregation, access and preservation of digital cultural heritage information.
