Sensible risk assessment in care settings
5 year plan People who work in care constitute a large and diverse workforce looking after a predominantly vulnerable population. These employees have the right to work in a healthy and safe workplace. The people using care services are entitled to care and support that is safe and takes their needs, freedom and dignity into account. Managing these different needs can sometimes present unique and complex situations which can, if not effectively managed, result in serious harm. and takes their needs, freedom and dignity into account. Sensible and proportionate management of risk
5 year plan Typical hazards affecting employees: Moving and handling Slips and trips Violence and aggression Specific hazards to residents may include: Falls from windows Scalding and burning Bedrail entrapment Legionella and takes their needs, freedom and dignity into account. Managing these different needs can sometimes present unique and complex situations which can, if not effectively managed, result in serious harm to employees, people using care services and others.

Sensible and proportionate management of risk
5 year plan A risk assessment must be carried out to identify sensible and proportionate controls to manage these hazards. But … the risk assessment process should not be about creating huge amounts of paperwork. In order to make H&S easier to understand and to prevent businesses creating unnecessary paperwork, the HSE have developed online guidance and tools. and takes their needs, freedom and dignity into account. Managing these different needs can sometimes present unique and complex situations which can, if not effectively managed, result in serious harm to employees, people using care services and others.

This is the go-to guide for all basic information that businesses need to start managing H&S. It offers simple, clear information that businesses must do to comply with the law. It focuses on the top 10 things businesses must do. It covers topics such as: what facilities need to be available in workplace; how to consult employees & what information & training to provide. If you already know the basics then you might go straight to the “Toolbox”. ABC is on the banner strapline at the top. H&S Made Simple is the go-to guide for all basic information that businesses need to start managing H&S. It offers simple, clear information that businesses must do to comply with the law. All the information is in one place. H&S Made Simple is freely available on the HSE website and can be downloaded. It is a short piece of guidance focusing on the top 10 things businesses must do. On- line risk assessments
5 year plan Risk assessment/H&S policy templates Example risk assessments for 30 different businesses show you want completed RA looks like – “maintenance of flats” has similar hazards. On line risk assessment tools - suitable for offices and shops and takes about 20 mins to complete. As part of managing the H&S of your business you must carry out a risk assessment. Simple tools have been created to show business owners how to identify hazards and risks and produce tailored risk assessments for their workplaces. Nb. If there are fewer than 5 employees the risk assessment doesn’t have to be written down. This can be expanded to show: Risk assessment template- record your findings Example risk assessments – for 30 different businesses. Show you what a completed risk assessment might look like for your type of business. You can use these as a guide when doing your own.
